Welcome new and old!

A small notice before we get to the goods!

Going to cut updates on the 3rd from this point forward. Updates on the 9th, 18th, and 27th is a perfect distribution. And it suits the upcoming changes yet to be revealed.

However, I'm skipping the update due on the 9th to finalize these changes before our quarterly update on the 15th.

If you're new here... you'll get used to my antics.

Thank you and enjoy!

Since the 27th, we've:

  • Minor development on the game concept.

  • Started development of the expanded worksheets.

  • Answered common questions creatives struggle with.

  • Developed the script for The Meridian Holy.

What have we learned? How will we move forward? Let's see!

Minor development on the game concept.

This was mostly to do with the control schemes of the video games. Because I'm nowhere near that stage, everything is kept in the abstract to save myself time and energy. With this, I primarily imagine how the game would feel to play.

A little context, back in June, I showed a little bit of "gameplay" before I lost the files. In essence, the concept is a first-person action RPG that is strictly controlled with the mouse.

I thought that the "drawing grid" mechanic wouldn't work with the new set of mechanics I developed. They meshed a little too well with the two-button control scheme I have, and was incompatible with the previous, more complex version.

Right click is currently for "defending." But it that was also for bringing up the grid to input special maneuvers (which is something I'm keeping in the game). Uh oh!

The simple change was "hold right click for two seconds to 'defend' and double click hold to bring up the grid."

Works in theory. Time will tell if it's comfortable in practice.

Started development of the expanded worksheets.

And then I stopped it, because I thought "well, I think there are better uses of my time right now." Not even my journal knows what that better use was.

However, it wasn't until today (the day of me writing this, the day it'll get sent to you guys) that I thought "you know what, now that the business funnel is being turned inside out, it would make sense to make them."

And so here I am, making them.

Answered common questions creatives struggle with.

Five questions is not that impressive, but it's a start and it was surprisingly fun.

Bookmarked a bunch of Reddit threads and forums and got a headstart tearing through the responses with my own commentary. Of course, not actually replying to the threads; these things are several years old. The plan is to develop dozens of answers and offer the bulk of them to our paid members. And the best part is, I intend for that resource to grow over time.

Overall, rather surprised by the density of the answers and how quickly I spun them up. 1700 words across five questions in about an hour? If I kept that up all day, I'd be able to write a small novel. If only it were so easy.

Hey, speaking of which...

Developed the script for The Meridian Holy.

I think this section is going to be a mainstay for the updates. If I don't end up touching or thinking about the script for several days, something is horribly wrong. The thing has to get done!

I've decided to avoid getting bogged down in the various branches the visual novel is going to feature and instead blitz straight through the primary story. This is a good idea for two main reasons:

  1. The main thing gets done faster, and

  2. I can then create the extra stuff until either I put everything I had planned out in there or up to the point of my own boredom.

I'm still going to need to script everything and figure out all things sound and music but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

That's all I have for you today.

Next update on the 15th barring emergencies.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Until then,

👋
