Welcome new and old!

Since the 9th, we've...

  • Hashed out a new version of the pen and paper version of the game idea.

  • Formatted and filled out a little bit of ‘The Master Document’.

  • Published version two of the NINE quiz.

  • Finished version two of the worksheets.

  • Finished a “simple” and “not so simple” introduction to the fragments to complete a…

  • Welcome package for those that sign up to the newsletter through the quiz (and of course, the ones already signed up said newsletter).

  • Slight reformatting of the website’s homepage to fit the current strategy.

  • Pushed The Meridian Holy’s script up to the introduction of the first (relevant) human that resides in The Dream World.

What have we learned?

How will we move forward?

Let's see!

The list isn't that big.

But the work certainly was.

Let's split the update between business and craft.

The "Master Document", quiz, worksheets, and intro to the fragments are all done to bring people into this little, soon-to-be-large world we're making here. This is all business. Front load helpful and mildly interesting material, help them out some more when they hop in.

The next step I'm thinking about is making a Discord server where I can help people and share what I've learned, provide tips, and so on. I've been sitting on the idea of a server for months, but I didn't have a good use case for it until now. Generally, I'd want it to be something more than just some social hangout. That sort of thing is something I don't need to be involved in, nor make.

I'll probably reach a conclusion by the next update. Keep an eye out for that.

For now, however...

Craft

Now, without mines.

The visual novel idea lends itself well to the approach I'm considering with the subsequent games: incrementally building on a foundation, making it better over time.

The pen and paper game is a great starting point. Since I'm somewhat designing it like a video game, I'm not entirely sure about publishing it in the future. But one thing's for certain. It helped me figure out very critical components of The Meridian Holy's second half. I'll be writing a bunch of parables for it, and it would've been very difficult if I didn't have any information of the various kinds of peoples and their history/culture! So that's a plus.

The video game concept has changed as a consequence. Mapping the new mechanics onto a mouse-only, first person action RPG without grid-based movement turned out... okay! With some problems. But that's for later. I'll need to consider how I'll handle the significantly more simple, 2D versions first!

I have some ideas. Simple, still images and mostly text based. No clue how the UI will look or how the game would play outside of combat which is probably the most important part.

Maybe I need to study more point and click games, but I'm sure I'll figure it out!

That's all I have for you today.

Next update on the 27th barring emergencies.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Until then,

👋
